5.9.19 - We Set It On Fire, You Fly Over It.

“It had nothing to do with me. I was just put there at the right place at the right time and I did the same thing anyone else would have done -- pulled them aboard." - Boat captain who saved two Florida teens

Domestic violence captured in progress

And this is exactly why we love our jobs! Our friends at the Chula Vista Police Department just released this video showing its drone program in action. The alleged domestic violence incident was not only in progress -- it was in motion, too. Check out how much they were able to capture before an officer arrived on the scene.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. They wouldn’t have seen much of this going down if the drone didn’t arrive first.

  2. The drone was launched and controlled by an officer at the CVPD headquarters.

  3. Skyfire is proud to have worked with CAPE and CVPD to help make this happen! Read more about our work together here.

Why should you care?

This is the kind of actionable intelligence you can expect when a drone arrives on the scene before officers. This is where we’re headed, folks!

Drone delivers a freakin’ KIDNEY!

This woman waited eight long years for an organ transplant and finally got it with the help of a drone.

A huge shoutout to this team in Maryland who made it happen. The flight wasn’t long -- less than three miles -- but cheers to a super impressive first in the industry.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. The team used a special prototype with backup propellers, backup motors, dual batteries and a parachute recovery system.

  2. Nearly 4% of organ donor shipments experience long delays and organs aren’t tracked during flight.

  3. The custom-designed drone flew over 700 hours in 44 test flights. Practice makes perfect!

What should you care?

Every single minute counts when it comes to organ transplants. And afternoon traffic is obviously no match for a drone. This could be like “Uber for organs!”

Google’s drone approved for package delivery

Heads up, Virginia! Drone package deliveries are headed your way -- at least for those of you in Blacksburg and Christiansburg (any propeller heads out there in the area? we’d love to hear what you think about this one!).

This is, like, the number one thing people ask us about when we say we work in the drone space. “But when can I start getting drone deliveries, man!?” And hey -- now we have an answer!

We should mention this is the drone owned by Google’s parent company (it’s called the Wing). Does anyone want to reach out to Amazon for comment?

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Two rural Virginia towns set to get package delivery “within months.”

  • They’ll sell items from local businesses.

  • The FAA process took months and required "extensive manuals, training routines, and a safety hierarchy."

Why should you care?
Because you obviously can’t wait TWO WHOLE DAYS for that 10-pack of toenail clippers!

Eric Wagner swears he heard screams despite the sounds of his boat’s engines and the rough waves. Sure enough, a pair of teens was flailing in the water almost 200 yards away.

They had been out there for two hours when they finally started fearing the worst and praying. That’s when Wagner showed up with his boat -- named Amen. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

He had been thinking about changing the name. Now he’s having a chance of heart. "Definitely not, I'll keep that name, 'Amen,' forever," he said.
