PUBLIC SAFETY MINUTE

Drones going door to door after a hurricane

fedd35a9-fe7f-4057-90a2-ae85fd09dfc5.jpg

How cool is this?! Miami-Dade is mailing out more than 1 million door hangers to residents to help them with their post-hurricane disaster response. One side is green and says “OK” while the other is red and states “HELP.” They’re asking residents to display them on their doors after a storm so they know from a quick glance which residents need a rescue crew’s attention. And in the case of areas with heavy damage? They plan to use drones to help with the safety checks. What a simple, yet effective idea!

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Hurricane season starts June 1 and goes through November. Peak hurricane season occurs mid-August to late-October!

  2. Miami-Dade is sending out door hangers for residents to display if they need assistance after a storm.

  3. They plan to use drones to spot the hangers in areas that are inaccessible due to storm damage.

Why should you care?

This just shows how you can pair a drone with a low-tech solution for maximum effectiveness. The sky really is the limit (sorry! we had to!).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Drone helps FDNY prepare for terror attack

We were honored to have our top pilots out with the FDNY Special Operations Command Task Force a couple weeks ago, helping them during a counterterrorism drill. You can go inside the exercise with Fox News and see how the Flyability Elios was able to give rescuers actionable intelligence about five victims trapped by a steel plate!

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. FDNY Special Operations Command Task Force drill simulated two simultaneous terror attacks.

  2. Skyfire was there with our pilots to help show off the Flyability Elios.

  3. The Elios is designed for flying inside inaccessible places -- like a tunnel, for example. Call us if you want to know more about this tech! We’d be happy to show it to ya.

Why should you care?

When you sign on with Skyfire, you’re joining the family. We don’t just drop the equipment, write a COA and run. We roll up our sleeves and get in the trenches to make sure we’re using our technology in every way we can to make sure everyone comes home safe.

A quick shoutout to our friends at the Houston County Sheriff's Department! We’re so thrilled to have helped them get their drone program off the ground (and that's right, we're throwing out all the flying puns this week!). You can see them in action here.

THAT'S IT FOLKS!

That's it for this week, friends! We’re off to pack up a ton of gear and head for Colorado. See you when we get back!

P.S. You digging Propellerheads? Yeah? Us, too! Why don't you forward it over to a buddy or encourage them to sign up here. We have a blast putting it together each week and the more the merrier!
